Moldova has the fastest startup growth in Europe, exceeding 90% in one year
The Republic of Moldova was recognized for having the fastest-growing startup ecosystem in Europe, achieving 91.9% growth in a single year, according to the Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2026 produced by StartupBlink. The award was presented at the Startup Ecosystem Awards 2026 ceremony held in Tashkent.
According to StartupBlink data, the Republic of Moldova recorded the highest startup ecosystem growth in Europe and the third-highest globally during 2025–2026. This growth is calculated based on the total score adjusted for population size.
The award was accepted by the Startup Moldova organization on behalf of the national startup ecosystem.
"This award recognizes the work of an entire community. Behind this 91.9% growth are founders building innovative products, investors choosing to support local ideas, organizations creating opportunities, and people contributing daily to the ecosystem's development," stated Olga Melniciuc, Executive Director of Startup Moldova.
According to her, this recognition confirms the progress achieved and serves as an impetus to continue connecting local startups with international markets and communities.
The ecosystem's growth is linked to expanded connections with investors, international markets, innovation organizations, and development programs. For startup founders, this translates into access to new opportunities for product development, expertise, funding, and international contacts.
The Global Startup Ecosystem Index analyzes startup ecosystems worldwide, taking into account factors such as the number and activity of startups, their performance, the business environment, and existing ecosystem connections.
Startup Moldova supports entrepreneurship and innovation by providing access to knowledge, investment, international exposure, and growth opportunities. The organization states that the award reflects the contributions of the founders, investors, mentors, organizations, and partners involved in developing the startup ecosystem in the Republic of Moldova.
