Unauthorized flight detected in Moldova's airspace
An unauthorized flight was detected in the airspace of the Republic of Moldova on Saturday at 11:16 AM, amidst massive attacks by the Russian Federation on Ukraine. The National Army's Air Operations service announced this, saying it is monitoring the situation and coordinating with competent authorities and the Republic of Moldova's partners.
According to data recorded by the surveillance systems in use, the aerial object entered national airspace at 11:16 from the direction of Stepanivka (Odesa region, Ukraine), crossing the state border towards Novocotovsc (Transnistrian segment).
At 11:18, the object exited national airspace, crossing the state border from the direction of Pervomaisc (Transnistrian segment) towards Lîmanske (Odesa region, Ukraine).
We remind you that between 2022 and 2026, the airspace of the Republic of Moldova was violated in 81 instances, with sightings of Russian- and Iranian-made missiles and drones—including decoy drones.
According to the National Army, the rise in the number of incidents is occurring against the backdrop of intensified air attacks by the Russian Federation on Ukraine.
The most recent illegal incursions into national airspace were reported on the morning of September 24. Two of the four drones detected in the north of the country crashed and exploded—one in Cernița (Florești district) and the other in the Camenca district of the Transnistrian region.
The escalation of aerial incidents and regional security risks has prompted the authorities in Chișinău to accelerate efforts to modernize the National Army's capabilities.
A crucial source of support in this endeavor is the €120 million assistance package provided by the European Union through the European Peace Facility, aimed at strengthening air defense.
These substantial funds will enable the procurement of modern equipment and high-performance radars capable of ensuring rigorous monitoring and effective protection of the Republic of Moldova's airspace.
