New US ambassador arrives in Moldova, seeking stronger relations
The United States Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Moldova, Joseph Mark Burkhalter, arrived in Chișinău yesterday, September 25, together with his wife. In a message published by the U.S. Embassy, the official said that he looks forward to working to strengthen and develop even stronger and more prosperous relations between the United States and the Republic of Moldova.
“We look forward to getting to know your country better and meeting as many of you as possible. For our first walk, we visited the “Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt” Public Garden and the famous monument to Ștefan cel Mare. We enjoyed exploring the city center and admiring the buildings of Parliament, the Government, as well as the Presidential Palace. I will be happy to receive your recommendations on places to visit, things to do and traditional dishes to try, as I discover your beautiful country and its wonderful people”, the diplomat mentioned.
Originally from the state of Georgia, diplomat Joseph Mark Burkhalter was confirmed by the United States Senate as ambassador to the Republic of Moldova at the beginning of August this year, after the U.S. administration had previously submitted his nomination for the post. The last U.S. ambassador with a full mandate in Chișinău was Kent D. Logsdon, who held the position from December 2021 until the end of May 2024.
At the end of his tenure, Kent D. Logsdon was decorated by President Maia Sandu with the “Order of Honor”, for his contribution to deepening relations between the Republic of Moldova and the United States. Since August 2025, the U.S. Embassy in Chișinău has been headed by Nick Pietrowicz as chargé d’affaires.
