Moldova's regulator lifts household gas price 29%, heating up to 62%
Moldova's energy regulator ANRE raised household gas prices by 29% on Monday, to €1.29 (approx. 26.14 MDL) per cubic metre with VAT, and approved steeper heating tariffs from October 1.
Second gas increase of 2026
The ANRE Board of Directors approved the tariffs on Monday, September 28, slightly below what suppliers requested. They apply from October 1.
It is the second gas increase this year, after a cut in February. The previous rise took effect on September 1, less than a month ago.
What households will pay
Before VAT, the household gas price rose from €0.93 to €1.20 per cubic metre, marginally below the request from state-owned supplier Energocom. With 8% VAT, consumers will pay €1.29.
ANRE Director Alexei Taran said Energocom had built a lower purchase price than the current one into its calculation. He said the adjustment is needed to stop negative financial deviations from building up, meaning gaps between the regulated price and actual gas costs.
“We do not produce this type of energy resource, natural gas. We are exposed to volatility on international markets,” Taran said. “These deviations have to be compensated later anyway and are added to subsequent prices,” he noted.
Taran said prices strictly reflect current market conditions and gas costs. In winter, when consumption is higher, the supplier must have enough funds to buy and deliver gas without interruptions.
Heating tariffs up by as much as 62%
ANRE also raised heat tariffs on Monday. Customers of Chisinau's district heating provider Termoelectrica will pay €162.1 per gigacalorie (Gcal), excluding VAT.
About 70 apartment buildings supplied by the Apa-Canal Chisinau utility will pay €146.2 per Gcal, excluding VAT. In Balti, heat from the CET-Nord plant was set at €166.9 per Gcal, plus 8% VAT.
Heat tariffs rose by between 32.3% and 62.2%.
Electricity from combined heat and power plants also costs more. ANRE set €0.23 per kWh, excluding VAT, for Termoelectrica's plants and €0.25 for CET-Nord.
