Minister of Justice: The pre-vetting commission will complete the evaluation of the candidates for the CSM from among non-judges, and the Parliament will approve their appointment
If the judges do not make a decision regarding the adoption and resumption of the activity of the Superior Council of the Magistracy until the next general meeting, then other measures will be taken to unlock the created situation, said the Minister of Justice, Veronica Mihailov-Moraru in a show on Pro Tv.
According to the official, the pre-vetting commission will complete the evaluation of all candidates for the position of member of the CSM from among non-judges, and the Parliament will approve their appointment.
"If the judicial system was not willing to put its shoulder to the formation of the CSM, which is part of the justice reform and the European agenda, then we will try to boost the formation of the CSM from among non-judges, through the appointment of CSM members by the Parliament. I fully agree that the CSM must be a body representative of the interest of the judiciary, but as long as the judiciary somehow inhibited the process of selecting judges within the CSM, we cannot endlessly watch how the public interest is affected", said the minister.
Veronica Mihailov-Moraru emphasized that it is important for judges to take the necessary measures to ensure the proper functioning of the justice system and to get involved in its reform process, in order to improve the quality of services offered to citizens.
We remind you that, on Monday, President Maia Sandu convened the Supreme Security Council in relation to the emergency situation in the judiciary. This is after last week the participants in the General Assembly of Judges decided to interrupt the meeting until April 28, and to postpone the subject of the election of members in the Superior Council of Magistracy.
