Resident of Mereni village found 100-kilogram bomb while digging aqueduct

A resident of Mereni village, Anenii Noi district, discovered a 100-kilogram aerial bomb while work was being carried out to install a water supply line. An explosive ordnance disposal team from the "Ștefan cel Mare" Motorized Infantry Brigade responded to the scene.

The bomb dated back to World War II, and the operation was classified as one of the most dangerous missions carried out by National Army explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) specialists in September.

In total, throughout September, National Army EOD specialists participated in 23 demining missions across the country, resulting in the discovery and destruction of 31 explosive items.

The operations took place in the municipalities of Chișinău and Bălți, as well as in the districts of Briceni, Căușeni, Anenii Noi, Ungheni, Fălești, Hâncești, Glodeni, Soroca, Cimișlia, Șoldănești, and Leova.

All munitions were safely neutralized at the firing range.

If explosive items are discovered, military EOD specialists advise citizens to immediately notify the 112 emergency service or local public authorities and to refrain from touching the munitions with their hands or any other objects.

Citizens are also urged not to strike or move discovered objects, not to dismantle fuses or other components, and not to throw explosive items into a fire.

Since the beginning of the year, National Army EOD specialists have carried out 108 demining missions, resulting in the destruction of over 230 explosive items of various types and 1,325 cartridges dating back to World War II.
