Severe storms and heavy rainfall in Spain prompt Moldova's warning

Citizens of the Republic of Moldova currently in Spain or planning to travel there are advised of severe weather conditions along the Mediterranean coast, following the issuance of a "red code" alert by Spanish authorities for heavy rainfall and strong storms.

The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the Kingdom of Spain informs that the country's State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall and severe storms along Spain's Mediterranean coast.

The diplomatic mission advises Moldovan citizens currently in, transiting through, or planning to travel to Spain to avoid flood-affected areas and comply with restrictions imposed by the authorities. The Embassy also recommends staying up to date on local official alerts and information, and following instructions issued by emergency services.

Excise duties on sugary drinks will start in 2027 to reduce consumption

Sweetened beverages and energy drinks will be subject to excise duties from 2027 in the Republic of Moldova, in order to discourage consumption and promote healthier food choices. Public health specialists warn that excess sugar promotes obesity and contributes to the development of noncommunicable diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and high blood pressure. Currently, more than 20% of the population of the Republic of Moldova is obese, according to Ion Șalaru, head of a department within the National Public Health Agency.

"Two teams. Two generations. One future": Friendly match for nicotine prevention

A friendly football match between two generations will take place on Sunday at the football field in Trușeni commune, Chișinău municipality, as part of the "A Smoke-Free Future" project implemented by the Center for Health Policies and Analysis (PAS Center). The match will feature young players aged 10 to 14 from the "Petru Leucă" Football Academy and a senior team composed of representatives from public institutions and organizations involved in promoting health, education, and public policy.
