Over 4.3 million lei invested in Susleni's local infrastructure

Residents of Susleni village, Orhei district, now benefit from a photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of approximately 100 kW and a rehabilitated one-kilometer stretch of local road, following two projects implemented under the "European Village" (second edition) and "Europe is Close" national programs. The state allocated over 1.46 million lei for installing the renewable energy system and nearly 2.93 million lei for the road upgrade, supplemented by a contribution from the local public administration.

According to the National Office for Regional and Local Development, the two projects aim to modernize public infrastructure, reduce energy costs for local institutions, and improve travel conditions for the village's approximately 2,800 residents, of whom around 600 are children.

Photovoltaic plant to reduce electricity costs
The project "Installation of electricity generation and supply systems using renewable resources" was implemented under the second edition of the "European Village" National Program between February 2025 and August 2026.
As part of the project, the municipality installed 164 photovoltaic panels with a total capacity of approximately 100 kW on a plot of land at the edge of the village. The surrounding area was also landscaped.
To fund the investment, the state budget allocated 1,460,453.10 lei through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development (FNDRL).

Although the project is still in the final acceptance phase, the photovoltaic plant began generating electricity in August. The generated energy covers significant local public administration costs, including operating the pump for the village's ornamental fountain.
Furthermore, the renewable energy production covers about 50% of electricity consumption for public lighting and half of the energy costs for the kindergarten, town hall, cultural centre, and youth centre.
In addition to lowering bills, the investment improves local safety. According to ONDRL, the public lighting system ensures safer movement at night by illuminating areas near key public institutions throughout the night.
Local authorities plan to use the resulting savings to address other community needs and improve public services for residents.

One kilometer of road rehabilitated after years of waiting
The second project, titled "Rehabilitation works on a road section in Susleni village," was carried out under the Government’s "Europe is Close" program and focused on modernising a one-kilometre stretch of local road in the village centre.
The road, originally built in the 1990s, had not previously undergone major repairs. During rainy periods, travel became difficult for pedestrians and drivers, limiting residents' access to key local institutions and facilities.

Following the works, the road section was paved, and road markings and traffic signs were installed.
The road rehabilitation improves access to the school, kindergarten, town hall, cultural center, youth center, family doctor's office, public library, police station, and social services office. The church, village mill, and several local shops also line this route.
The improved traffic conditions particularly benefit children attending school and kindergarten, their parents, and the elderly, all of whom can now travel more safely.

To implement the project, the Government allocated 2,927,399.19 lei from the state budget via the FNDRL. The local public administration contributed 175,416.41 lei.
The two investments in Susleni are part of efforts to modernise local infrastructure through national, regional, and local development programs, aiming to improve public services and living conditions for communities in the Republic of Moldova.
