Drone explosion in northern Moldova: fragments scattered up to 100 meters

Fragments of a drone, which appears to have exploded on impact with the ground, were found on agricultural land near the village of Scăieni, Dondușeni district. After an investigation, police identified a crater containing potentially dangerous materials, along with various aircraft components scattered within a 100-meter radius.

According to the Police, the crater formed by the impact has a diameter of approximately 35 centimeters and a depth of 15 centimeters. Police found the internal combustion engine, the fuel tank, and other fragments of the drone’s airframe nearby.

Authorities intend to commission expert analyses to identify all the items found and establish the circumstances of the incident. For now, the Police have not specified the drone's type.

On October 16, the Ministry of Defense announced that a drone had crashed and exploded in a field outside the locality of Codrenii Noi, in the direction of the village of Scăieni.

Between October 15 and 16, the authorities recorded seven instances of unauthorized drone flights through the airspace of the Republic of Moldova. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the incidents—describing them as a serious violation of the country’s sovereignty—and called on Russia to cease its attacks on Ukraine.
