Giurgiulești border crossing parking upgraded: truck capacity doubled and improved driver conditions

Truck parking capacity has doubled, and conditions for drivers have improved, at the Giurgiulești border parking area. The truck parking area has expanded from 0.65 to about 1.28 hectares, and capacity has doubled—from 30 to 60 trucks.

The investment comes against the backdrop of increasing freight traffic and the reconfiguration of regional logistics routes.

The works included expanding and paving the area with concrete, upgrading the water supply and sewage networks, and installing sanitary facilities for drivers.

The project also installed an electronic weighbridge, lighting systems, a backup power supply, access barriers, and a video surveillance system. The project also implemented measures for fire safety, wastewater treatment, and stormwater drainage.

"The modernized infrastructure provides additional parking capacity and better conditions for drivers, as part of efforts to develop transport infrastructure and facilitate trade between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union," the Customs Service stated.

The total value of the contracts for the works and related services amounts to approximately 18 million lei. The European Union and the World Bank supported the project.

The Giurgiulești area serves as a hub for transport flows heading toward Romania and Ukraine, as well as for traffic serving the Giurgiulești International Free Port.
