Moldova secures Weimar Triangle backing for territorial integrity

Ambassadors from the Weimar Triangle reaffirmed support for Moldova’s sovereignty during talks in Chisinau on Monday, as Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi insisted the Transnistrian settlement must proceed strictly through peaceful diplomatic means.
The high-level delegation—bringing together permanent representatives to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) from France, Germany, and Poland—reviewed regional security developments alongside Moldovan officials. The diplomats underlined their joint commitment to Moldova’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
Peaceful reintegration within recognized borders
Popșoi emphasized that Chisinau remains firmly committed to resolving the standoff in the breakaway Transnistrian region without coercion. He underscored that institutional modernization and national stability are the central pillars of the reintegration agenda.
“Reintegrating the country is a process that is moving forward, and our priority is to preserve peace and stability so we can continue this sustainably,” said Popșoi. “It is essential to strengthen state institutions so that they serve the interests of all citizens of the Republic of Moldova.”
Preparing for the Lugano ministerial council
The foreign minister commended the OSCE Mission to Moldova for facilitating political dialogue and monitoring human rights standards across the Dniester River. He stressed that active international mediation remains indispensable as regional tensions persist.
“We value the organization’s support and vital role in advancing dialogue, peace, and regional stability,” said Popșoi. “We will continue cooperating with our partners toward our shared objectives, including at the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in December.”
The consultative session concluded with commitments to coordinate closely ahead of the upcoming OSCE Ministerial Council, scheduled for December 3–4 in Lugano, Switzerland. Established in 1991, the Weimar Triangle serves as a primary trilateral consultative format for Paris, Berlin, and Warsaw to address European security challenges.
