Prime Minister Tofan announces a 250-million-euro investment in Stăuceni to attract more visitors to Chișinău

A new shopping center, estimated at 250 million euros, is set to be built in the commune of Stăuceni, a suburb of the municipality of Chișinău. The investment represents approximately 1.3% of the Republic of Moldova’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and is one of the largest since the country declared its independence.

Two foreign companies that have previously invested in the Republic of Moldova in sectors such as tourism, hospitality, and healthcare launched construction work on October 28.

Currently, they are also developing projects in the energy sector, including a wind farm with a capacity of over 40 megawatts and an energy storage system with a capacity of over 10 megawatt-hours.

Such projects are important for accelerating economic growth, emphasized Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, who was present at the launch event for the construction work.

"If we want to grow the economy faster, we need more ambitious investments like these, and more investors who believe in Moldova for the long term," the Prime Minister stated.

According to the head of government, the project is expected to create jobs, develop services, and stimulate the economy. Attracting large-scale private investment is essential for achieving the goal of 4–5% annual economic growth.

Furthermore, Vasile Tofan highlighted the project's potential to attract visitors from neighboring countries and to boost the development of tourism, the hospitality sector (HoReCa), and the service industry.

"The challenge is to get people from Iași to come to a mall in Chișinău, rather than just us going to Iași. We want more and more people to visit Chișinău for a weekend—for shopping, restaurants, wine, and events," stated Vasile Tofan.

The official noted that such projects can strengthen the capital's appeal and diversify offerings for both domestic and international visitors.

The Prime Minister welcomed that the companies responsible for the construction continue to develop projects in the Republic of Moldova, having already invested in our country.

"That is what I like most about today’s project: investors who know Moldova, have invested here, placed their trust in us, and are choosing to invest again—on a much larger scale," concluded Vasile Tofan.
