Moscow warns again and says it will respond "accordingly" if our country aligns with European sanctions

The Russian Federation will come up with a tailor-made response if the Republic of Moldova joins the sanctions imposed since the beginning of the war in Ukraine by European countries. The statement was made at a press briefing by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zaharova after the Moldovan authorities announced that they would join the sanctions imposed by the European Union on the Russian Federation for aggression against Ukraine.

According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zaharova, Russia has always advocated strengthening relations with Moldova in several areas. She threatened that Russia would come up with a response if Moldova joins the European sanctions that have been imposed by European states since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.

"The moment the authorities in Chisinau join these sanctions we will have to take appropriate reciprocal measures towards the Moldovan side as well. We want to stress that this will not be our choice, but a response to unfriendly steps. Russia has always considered the Republic of Moldova, the citizens of this country, as a friendly people. Many things bind us together, both in the historical context and in terms of economic, business, humanitarian and family relations. At the same time, we share a common past".

Last week, Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu said in an interview with Europa Liberă that the Republic of Moldova had begun to gradually align itself with the sanctions imposed by the European Union on the Russian Federation for its aggression against Ukraine. According to the official, this would mainly involve travel bans on Russian citizens, freezing bank accounts or assets of individuals involved in the aggression against Ukraine.
