Moldova, Romania and Ukraine conduct joint border security operation

Authorities from Moldova, Romania and Ukraine checked 1,474 biometric profiles, 567 travel documents and 671 vehicles during a joint operation held in Moldova from October 25 to November 1.
Regional cooperation to strengthen border security
The operation, called HOTSPOT Moldova 2026, Phase 2, was conducted under INTERPOL's I-FORCE project. Police officers and representatives of partner institutions carried out checks at strategic border crossing points and Eugen Doga International Airport in Chisinau.
Authorities used INTERPOL databases and modern biometric identification technologies to screen individuals and verify travel documents and vehicles.

Nearly 1,500 biometric profiles checked
The operation focused on preventing and combating cross-border crime, identifying individuals suspected of involvement in terrorist activities or other offences, and detecting cases of illegal migration.
“A total of 1,474 biometric profiles were collected and checked across the region, including 567 by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova,” the General Police Inspectorate (GPI) said.
Authorities also conducted 567 checks of travel documents and 671 vehicle checks.
Moldovan institutions joined by Romanian and Ukrainian teams
The operation was organised by the Ministry of Internal Affairs through the General Police Inspectorate, in cooperation with the General Inspectorate of Border Police, the General Inspectorate for Migration, the Security and Intelligence Service and the Customs Service.
INTERPOL experts and law enforcement teams from Romania and Ukraine also took part.
According to the GPI, such joint operations strengthen international cooperation, improve the exchange of operational information and enhance the authorities' capacity to respond to cross-border threats.
