EcoVoucher program: Another 2,960 families will receive vouchers for energy-efficient appliances

Another 2,960 families in the Republic of Moldova will receive 7,000-lei vouchers to replace old household appliances with energy-efficient models. The latest round of the EcoVoucher program runs from November 6 to 22.

According to the National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED), the voucher covers up to 70% of the price of an appliance—including VAT—up to a maximum of 7,000 lei. The beneficiary pays the remaining balance.

The budget for this new round is approximately 21 million lei, which includes funds that remained unspent from the previous round. Vouchers are allocated automatically, based on eligibility criteria and data registered on compensatii.gov.md platform.

"While we cannot influence energy tariffs, we are making efforts to optimize consumption—including by helping vulnerable families replace their household appliances with new, energy-efficient models. In this context, every single Watt counts," stated Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu. "For many households, switching to an energy-efficient appliance is an investment they might otherwise postpone without support. EcoVoucher makes this choice more accessible and brings energy efficiency into the daily lives of families", stated Ion Muntean, Director of the CNED.

Through the program, households can purchase refrigerators—including models with integrated freezers—rated in energy classes A, B, C, and D, as well as washing machines in energy class A. All eligible appliances meet energy efficiency requirements and European Conformity (CE) standards.

Priority in the distribution of vouchers is given to families with a larger number of minor children and to households that include at least two individuals over the age of 63. Additionally, 10% of the total available vouchers are reserved for persons with severe disabilities.

Beneficiaries are notified via SMS or email when they receive a voucher, which they can access through the compensatii.gov.md platform. To redeem the voucher, beneficiaries must hand over an old, used appliance of the same type as the one being purchased for recycling.

Since the program's launch, 48,813 families have received support through EcoVoucher. Appliances purchased with these vouchers include 23,004 refrigerators and 25,773 washing machines. These new appliances generate annual electricity savings of approximately 10.3 million kWh—equivalent to about 38 million lei—and contribute to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 5,150... on an annual basis.

The Program was developed by the Government, with financial support from the European Union, and is implemented by the CNED in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy. The current edition of the program is funded from the state budget.
