Veaceslav Ionita: Refugees from Ukraine had a positive influence on the economy of the Republic of Moldova
Refugees from Ukraine have had a positive influence on the economy of the Republic of Moldova, says economic policy expert Veaceslav Ionita on the show "Economic Analysis". They have been staying in our hotels, motels and tourist pensions, supporting the HoReCa branch, consuming goods and bringing money into the national budget. At the same time, the transport branch also benefited from the exchange of goods to and from Ukraine.
The national budget in 2022 due to the reduction in consumption had a modest increase, noted economic policy expert Veaceslav Ionita. According to him, Ukrainian refugees contributed to its consolidation, generating revenue in the form of VAT and excise duties. Veaceslav Ionita added that 5,000 refugees from Ukraine are employed and pay social insurance, medical, other taxes and duties.
"From VAT, excise, social insurance, medical and other taxes and duties, in the first quarter of last year was 150 million lei, in the second quarter - 550 million lei, third quarter - 560 million lei, fourth quarter - 590 million lei. All in all, in the national budget, which last year had not the most pleasant situation, Ukrainian refugees brought at least 1.8 billion lei", the expert said.
Veaceslav Ionita also said that in the last ten years, Ukrainian investments in Moldova have doubled, from $27 million in 2010 to about $54 million in 2021.
