The BCS proposes a draft amendment to the Constitution to prohibit the migration of MPs. PAS could support the initiative
The Bloc of Communists and Socialists MPs are proposing a draft amendment to the Constitution banning the migration of MPs. The announcement was made by the executive secretary of the Socialist Party, Vlad Batrîncea, in the context of the latest departures from the party. At the same time, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu told a press conference that legislative changes were needed to discourage political careerism.
Three years on, the Socialists are repeatedly proposing a ban on political careerism. That's after they proposed drafting a similar bill in 2020. For this initiative to reach parliament, it needs the support of one third of MPs, said Vlad Batrîncea, executive secretary of the Socialist Party. He also called on all elected representatives to combat this phenomenon.
"People vote for political parties, people vote for teams, platforms and not for individual MPs. That is why we believe that today we must vote on these changes in the Constitution, obviously there are procedures. It is a historic chance for both the left and the right to introduce clear rules of the game, to introduce normality and to return voters' trust in Parliament."
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said today that the ruling party was ready to examine the possibility of making such changes to legislation.
"Yes, we are willing to sit down and see what changes in the legislation we can make to discourage such regrettable and reprehensible phenomena. Especially when it is not about migration for ideological reasons. Clearly there is another motivation here. One inspired by the criminal world, by the secret services of other countries, which are trying to destabilise the political situation".
In the last half year, the Socialist Party has lost three MPs. The first was Gaik Vartanean, who joined the mayor general of Chisinau, Ion Ceban. He was followed by Alexandr Nesterovschi and Irina Lozovan. The two announced their support for the People's Movement, which includes the Sor Party.
In 2020, MPs voted on a declaration condemning the acts of political misconduct and corruption. The draft, drawn up at the time, was supported by all parliamentary factions.
