The $55 million World Bank loan will be available within the next two months
The $55 million loan pledged by the World Bank last September will be available by the end of May, Vasile Sarban, state secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, told Radio Moldova. According to the government representative, part of the money will be provided for the livestock sector and another part for the development of irrigation systems.

"With the help of the World Bank we have managed to attract a loan for the country. For farmers it will be in the form of a grant, subsidies. The agreement has not yet been signed, but it will be in the near future. In total it will be $55 million. Of this, 25 million will be allocated to the development of irrigation systems, because we see what happens when we have drought. Another 25 million will go to the livestock sector for new and existing farms to strengthen them. Another five million - to strengthen the capacities of AIPA and ANSA."
The World Bank project includes expansion of irrigation services, as well as support to the livestock sector with a focus on dairy and beef cattle breeding and upgrading of milk processing equipment. The World Bank will also support the establishment of farms and the creation of dairy cooperatives.
