The reform process, the cooperation of the Republic of Moldova with the Council of Europe were among the topics discussed between the president Maia Sandu and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić.

The head of state emphasized that, despite the challenges brought by the war, the authorities continue the actions of rooting out corruption and reforming the justice system. According to Maia Sandu, these reforms are part of the country's European agenda, but also a commitment to the citizens, to build a just society and a resilient economy, which provides people with security. President Maia Sandu appreciated the support of the Council of Europe for the promotion of human rights and democratic values, the rule of law and media freedom. It should be noted that the Republic of Moldova became a member of the Council of Europe on July 13, 1995, and two years later, the Chisinau Parliament ratified the European Convention on Human Rights. Also then, the Council of Europe started its activity in Chisinau. In October 2002, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe appointed a Special Representative of the Secretary General in Chisinau.
