The first UK-supplied Challenger battle tanks have arrived in Ukraine
The first British Challenger tanks have arrived in Ukraine, Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov announced on Monday evening, reports Agerpres.
Reznikov said that "British Challengers, American Strykers and Cougars and German Marders" have* "been added to the Ukrainian units"*.
A Ukrainian ministry spokeswoman, Irina Zolotar, confirmed to AFP that Challenger tanks "are already in Ukraine", without disclosing the exact number at this stage.
A group of Ukrainian soldiers have completed their training in the UK to learn how to operate the 14 Challenger 2 tanks supplied by London to Ukraine, the UK Ministry of Defence says.
Western countries believe Ukraine has a right to defend itself, but some are reluctant to deliver weapons that would help escalate the conflict. Slovakia recently delivered four MiG-29s to Ukraine and Poland has promised to do the same.
