Nearly 30% of Ukrainian territory is mined, authorities in Kiev

Approximately 30% of the Ukrainian territory is contaminated with explosives and mines, declared, on Thursday, the Deputy Minister of Interior from Kyiv, Bogdan Drapiatîi. According to him, the government is working on creating a specialized center for finding and deactivating mines.

Drapiatii explained that specialists from different structures of the Ministry of the Interior are acting to demine all the affected areas under the control of Ukraine. The work to remove mines and other explosives, the official added, is focused on those territories liberated by Ukraine, which were occupied by Russia.

Since the beginning of the war, the authorities have demined 1,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory, which required the deactivation of about 520,000 explosives.

This week, two people died when two anti-personnel mines exploded in the Kharkiv region, which was almost entirely cleared by Ukrainian forces last October.
