Donald Trump facing charges - a first for a former US president
Donald Trump has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury following an investigation into money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels to buy her silence, becoming the first former U.S. president to face criminal charges even as he launched his bid for a new White House candidacy, the New York Times reported on Thursday, cited by Reuters.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office announced Thursday evening that it had contacted an attorney for Donald Trump to arrange for his appearance in New York court and thus formally notify the former US president of his criminal indictment in the 2016 buyout of a porn actress, AFP reports.
"We have contacted Mr Trump's attorney this evening to arrange for his surrender to the Manhattan district attorney (Alvin Bragg) for an indictment hearing before a New York Supreme Court," a spokesman for the Manhattan district attorney's office indicated in a brief statement after the jury voted to indict the former US president.
Former President Donald Trump on Thursday strongly criticised his indictment by the New York judiciary, denouncing "political persecution and interference in the 2024 presidential election" in which he is a candidate, AFP reported on Friday.
