Two trains derailed by a storm in Switzerland. 15 people injured

Two regional trains derailed near the Swiss capital Bern on Friday (31 March) within 20 minutes of each other, AFP reported. Train operators said bad weather - specifically a storm - was to blame.

According to police, 15 people were injured in the accidents, including three minors.

The first incident took place in the lakeside town of Luscherz, north-west of Bern, at around 16:30 local time. The train was travelling between Luscherz and Biel.

"The rear of the train fell on its right side," the police spokeswoman told AFP, who did not give details of the condition of the injured. "Rescue operations - police, ambulance and fire brigade - are still ongoing," she added.

The second incident took place about 20 minutes later in Buren zum Hof, about 25 kilometres from Bern. The regional rail operator announced that some services had been suspended "as a result of the storm".
