Citizens will no longer receive compensation when paying bills. Labour Minister explains
State compensation for paying electricity, heating and gas bills will no longer be paid from April. The information was confirmed today by Labour Minister Alexei Buzu at a press conference. The official noted that the authorities needed to be careful how they manage financial resources, as it is unclear how the next winter season will be.
"No, it is not possible. Compensation for the cold season is finalised at the end of March. Hopefully the cold days won't last that long. It has been important for this government to get through this winter, extremely complicated decisions have been made, all my colleagues in the ministries have had to make cuts in their own budgets to ensure we have the resources to provide compensation during this period. We understand that there is this problem, but we have to be very careful about how we manage resources. There is another cold period coming and we need to prepare thoroughly for that too," the Minister explained.
In the period from November 2022 to March 2023, the Moldovan Government partially compensated for the increase in energy tariffs through the "Help to Meter" programme. The total budget of the project was almost 5 billion lei.
