Strengthening cooperation in the field of renewable energy discussed at Moldovan-Polish forum
Strengthening cooperation in the renewable energy, road and rail infrastructure, and agri-food sectors was the theme of an economic forum attended by business representatives from Moldova and Poland.
It is organised by the Polish Investment and Trade Agency in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Chisinau and the Investment Agency. Several memoranda were signed during the event.
Poland is one of the most important investors in the Republic of Moldova with an investment figure of over 70 million USD. In areas such as finance, construction and food processing, said Ion Iordachi, deputy director general of the Investment Agency.
"Bilateral economic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Poland have been developing steadily in recent years, becoming increasingly important for both countries. In 2022, bilateral trade increased by about 14%, reaching a record amount of $425 million, with imports increasing by about 13% and exports by about 12%. Among the goods exported to the Polish market from the Republic of Moldova, wines and agri-food products are at the top, while technologies, chemical products and household appliances are at the top of imports", Ion Iordachi said.
At the same time, bilateral meetings with Polish businessmen and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry in the field of animal husbandry are held within the framework of this forum.
Attending the event, Minister Vladimir Bolea appreciated the openness of Polish colleagues in the development process of the Republic of Moldova.
"The Ministry of Agriculture places great emphasis on the development of the livestock sector. First of all, because this means rural development, plus the value of agriculture itself. A farm, in a village, means jobs in the village, it means sustainable living, everyone must be aware of this. Only the exclusive growth of cereal volumes and their export focus is one of the causes that has led to the destruction of Moldovan villages and the lack of jobs," said Vladimir Bolea. Today's event is special because of the opportunity to share the experience of the two countries, but also because several memoranda of cooperation will be signed," said Zdzislaw Sokal, member of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency.
"Today, we will sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Moldovan Railways Investment Agency and the Polish Railway Equipment and Services Manufacturers' Association, which is the second Memorandum of Understanding concluded by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its Moldovan partner. The first one was signed between the Moldovan Investment Agency in November during the Poland-Moldova Digital Business Economic Forum. We hope that today's event will be a step forward towards cooperation based on partnership, understanding and mutual respect", concluded Zdzislaw Sokal.
Also today at the economic forum, Energocom Joint Stock Company signed a memorandum of cooperation with the operator of the electricity market, the only authorized commodity exchange in Poland. The document opens up new opportunities for cooperation for the state-owned joint-stock company to take over the Polish experience and reach a new market.
