Chisinau's harsh response to Maria Zaharova's recent statements: They are inconsistent with reality and inadmissible in the relationship with our country

The statements of the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs are inconsistent with reality and inadmissible in the relationship with our country. It is the reaction of Chisinau to the statements of Maria Zaharova, who accused the leadership of the Republic of Moldova of intimidating the parliamentary opposition and establishing total control. Also, Zaharova said that the current leadership from Chisinau is taking the country to the EU, violating the Copenhagen criteria.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration welcomes the fact that the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs knows the Copenhagen criteria. We want to assure her that our country is determined to comply with these criteria and is actively implementing them," the MFA statement reads.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentions that in the Republic of Moldova there is a real parliamentary and extra-parliamentary opposition, and the media can freely comment and criticize the actions of the authorities, within the limits provided by the law and on the condition that this does not endanger the security of the country.

"According to the press freedom index published by the international non-governmental organization "Reporters Without Borders", the Republic of Moldova ranks 40th, 49 points better than in 2020. In turn, the Russian Federation ranks 155th out of 180 possible", notes MAEIE.

At the same time, the ministry suggested Maria Zaharova, in addition to the Copenhagen criteria, to reread the Russian Constitution, which, among other things, guarantees everyone freedom of thought and expression, the right to seek, receive, transmit, produce and disseminate information through any legal means. Freedom of mass information is also guaranteed and censorship is prohibited.

"We wish the Russian side that these provisions are fully and unconditionally applied to ensure the protection of rights and freedoms, for the benefit of all citizens of the Russian Federation," the MAEIE concluded.

We note that on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the Russian MFA, Maria Zaharova, launched new accusations against the leadership in Chisinau. *"The Republic of Moldova is entering the EU not on the path of strengthening democracy and developing the social sphere, but through the centralization of power, censorship, total control over everything that means the socio-political sphere, intimidation and pressure on the opposition," said Zaharova.
