Poland aims to become the service centre in Europe for US-made Abrams tanks

Poland aims to become the service centre in Europe for US-made Abrams tanks, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Wednesday during a visit to the US, Agerpres.ro reports.

"I want a service centre for Abrams tanks for the whole of Europe, to maintain their combat readiness, to be located in Poland. This is possible, I am in talks about it," Prime Minister Morawiecki told a news conference in Anniston, Alabama, in a statement broadcast on Polish public television.

Poland, a close US NATO ally, has ordered 250 state-of-the-art Abrams battle tanks, in addition to 116 upgraded ones.

"I have confirmation that 14 Abrams tanks will be delivered to Poland by June at the latest," Morawiecki said, adding that they will replace Soviet-era tanks his country donated to Ukraine to help it fight the Russian invasion.
