More opportunities for transit of goods between Moldova and the EU: What the agreement ratified by the Parliament provides for
The agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union (EU) on road freight transport has been ratified. The agreement will help overcome transport bottlenecks faced by Moldovan road haulage operators following the Russian Federation's military aggression in Ukraine, according to Parliament.
More specifically, it will allow the use of alternative transport routes for Moldovan goods, especially agricultural products, on the territory of EU states.
"The legislative initiative on the ratification of the agreement belongs to the government. In the opinion of the author, the accession of our country to this European treaty will temporarily facilitate the road transport of goods between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova in the context of the repercussions of the war of aggression waged by Russia against Ukraine and the significant disruptions caused by it in the road transport sector in our country," reads a press release of the legislature.
The agreement was signed on 29 June 2022 and its provisions are already in force. According to the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Lilia Dabija, since then the country's exports of goods have substantially reoriented to the European Union market.
