Anatolie Nosatyi: "In a few months Moldova will have an anti-aircraft defence system"

The security situation in the region, as well as repeated threats by the Russian Federation against the Republic of Moldova have prompted the authorities to invest more in defence, Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatyi told a TVR programme last night. According to the minister, the Republic of Moldova will soon have an air defence system.

"In a few weeks Chisinau will sign a contract for the purchase of an anti-aircraft defence system, and in a few months it should arrive in Moldova. We are responsible and we need to know what is happening in our airspace. This is the first time in recent years that the Government has decided to invest 0.55% of the Gross Domestic Product in the procurement of weapons and equipment needed by the National Army," the Defence Minister said.

In this context, it should be noted that for 2023, the budget of the National Army of the Republic of Moldova has been increased by 68 percent compared to last year and is about one billion seven hundred million lei, which represents 0.55% of the Gross Domestic Product of the country. Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatyi said earlier that this increase was insufficient anyway. According to him, financial allocations equivalent to 2% of GDP would be needed to ensure a change in national defence.
