European Political Community Summit in the Republic of Moldova: So far, 37 countries have confirmed their attendance at the event
37 countries have so far confirmed their attendance at the European Political Community Summit to be held on 1 June in the Republic of Moldova. In the meantime, the organisation of the event has been discussed in Brussels during the visit of Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu. President Maia Sandu says that this summit is important for both Moldova and Europe.
The leaders of 37 countries have already confirmed their attendance at the second meeting of the European Political Community, which will be held in our country, said Olga Rosca, adviser to the President of the Republic of Moldova, to TVR Moldova.
"Forty-seven heads of state and government have been invited, as well as the presidents of the European Council, the European Commission and the European Parliament. For the moment we have 37 confirmations and we expect more as we get closer to the date of the event. The venue will be announced next week."
Peace, security, economic resilience, as well as climate action and interconnections in Europe are the main topics to be addressed at the European Political Community summit in Chisinau, President Maia Sandu announced. The head of state said that this summit is an important one for both Moldova and Europe.
"We want to ensure that this summit will be a productive and meaningful event that will contribute to identifying solutions to the problems facing Europe. For Moldova, the organisation of the summit of the European political community is a proof of our strong commitment to the European family, but also a strong diplomatic support, which we enjoy at a difficult time."
Around 2,000 people will attend the event, and the authorities are making considerable logistical efforts to organise the European Political Community summit, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu said in a broadcast on Moldova 1. The official underlined Moldova's opportunity to be visible internationally.
"In addition to these 50 delegations, hundreds of journalists will come. We will probably have up to two thousand people. It is a huge operation and logistical effort. Obviously there will be some inconvenience. The most dangerous for Moldova is international isolation. This is our opportunity to convince and show that the Republic of Moldova deserves to join the European Union."
The organisation of the second European Political Community Summit by the Republic of Moldova on 1 June has been discussed in Brussels during meetings between Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu and European officials. The first meeting took place in Prague in October 2022.
