Igor Grosu at the Prague Conference: "We aim to open EU accession negotiations by the end of the year"
The priorities and challenges faced by the Republic of Moldova following the Russian invasion of Ukraine were brought to the attention of the Conference of Presidents of Parliaments of the 27 EU Member States by the head of the legislature in Chisinau. Igor Grosu attended the meeting of the presidents of parliaments of EU candidate countries in Prague.
"We talked about the priorities and challenges facing the Republic of Moldova at this time. As an EU candidate country, we aim to open negotiations by the end of this year. To this end, we are implementing the European Commission's recommendations and transposing European legislation at an accelerated pace. We are aware that this is a complex process, but we are determined to achieve it as soon as possible," Igor Grosu wrote on his Facebook page.
The President of the Parliament also stressed the priorities of the Chisinau government. These, according to Igor Grosu, are rebuilding the economy, energy security and strengthening state security, reforming justice and improving living standards.
"The Republic of Moldova must become a member of the EU despite the challenges we face", concluded Igor Grosu.
The President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is attending the conference of heads of legislatures of EU Member States. The Republic of Moldova is for the first time represented at this meeting as a candidate country for EU membership.

On 4 March 2022, the Republic of Moldova applied to join the EU. In June of the same year, the EU granted the Republic of Moldova the status of candidate country, with the authorities in Chisinau pledging to fulfil the European Commission's recommendations.
