Eva Kaili lost her position as vice-president of the European Parliament
The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, on Saturday withdrew the mandate of vice-president of the EP from the Greek MEP Eva Kaili, detained on Friday by Belgian justice in an investigation regarding suspicions of corruption in connection with Qatar.

"In light of the ongoing judicial investigations led by the Belgian authorities, President Metsola has decided to suspend with immediate effect all prerogatives, duties and tasks delegated to Eva Kaila in her capacity as Vice-President of the European Parliament," said a spokesperson for Roberta Metsola during the evening, quoted by AFP, according to Agerpres.
Greek Socialist MEP Eva Kaili was arrested in Brussels on Friday night as part of an investigation into suspected corruption involving Qatar, according to a source close to the case.
The publication L'Echo wrote that during the searches, significant sums of money were found in several locations and that her father was caught with a bag full of money.
Four other arrests have already taken place in the Belgian capital on Friday morning in the same case. At the centre of the investigation, led by an investigating judge in Brussels: the actions of a "Gulf country" suspected of "influencing the economic and political decisions of the European Parliament by paying substantial sums of money or offering significant gifts", the prosecutor's office pointed out.
As for the beneficiaries, they are personalities who have "a significant political and/or strategic position" within the European Parliament.
