Ministers of Agriculture from the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Ukraine discuss optimizing the transit of Ukrainian grains
The Ministers of Agriculture from Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine discussed optimizing the transit of Ukrainian grains, reads a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.
During the meeting, the officials discussed the Moldovan-Romanian cooperation on the agro-industrial dimension and the financial and non-financial stimulation mechanisms of agricultural producers. Also, the topic related to the portfolio of projects that are ongoing, as well as those that are planned, was also addressed.
Later, Vladimir Bolea and Petre Daea met online with the Ukrainian Minister of Agriculture, Mikola Solski.
"The purpose of the meeting between the three counterparts was to agree on the way to optimize the transit of the grains arriving from Ukraine, so that Romanian farmers have the possibility of transporting the grains, releasing the warehouses and exporting the products from the new harvest", announces Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.
The three Ministers of Agriculture from the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Ukraine agreed to exchange information on the quantities of wheat that will be transported on the solidarity corridors.
We remind you that, recently, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Vladimir Bolea, announced the intention of the Republic of Moldova to temporarily introduce a ban on the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower originating from Ukraine. In response, the Kiev authorities declared that they could ban imports from the Republic of Moldova.
Later, Chisinau announced that it was abandoning the imposition of bans, and at the same time it was preparing measures to support farmers affected by the high prices of diesel and fertilizers. The executive announced that it will provide an additional 100 million lei to compensate farmers for raw material expenses and will continue to identify financial resources to subsidize losses.
As a result, some of the representatives of the farmers' associations in the country stated that they are dissatisfied with the decision taken by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and still demand the ban on the import of grain from Ukraine.
