Opinions: "Moldova Europeană" Assembly Sends a Strong Message to the Entire Europe
The event in the Great National Assembly Square demonstrates the mobilisation of citizens in support of the European vector, according to experts. They consider the efforts made by the authorities in this direction to be impressive, and the scenario of the Republic of Moldova becoming a full-fledged European state by 2030 is achievable. On the other hand, representatives of the parliamentary opposition, who did not participate in the event, declare that "Moldova Europeană" is essentially a failure.
"The speeches of President Sandu, President Metsola, even though they were delivered in English, resonated with the citizens who were in the Square. And this means that the messages conveyed truly reflect our spirit, our expectations, and our aspirations as a country. I am glad that the president's speech was addressed to all communities in our country, regardless of the language spoken. The messages were very clear about unity, more trust, and even more courage that we are starting to demonstrate as a society in defending our cherished values," said Iulian Groza.
In turn, the expert from Bucharest, Cristian Pîrvulescu, stated that this event prepares Europe for the meeting scheduled for June 1st within the European Political Community Summit. The expert emphasized that in Bucharest, the event in the Great National Assembly Square is being closely watched with great satisfaction.
"Maia Sandu has today demonstrated against Moscow, against those who want Moldova to take a different path, showing that the majority of Moldovans are in favor of the pro-European line, despite attempts to derail this line. It was a very good speech, which ended with a genuine score to achieve this European integration of Moldova by 2030," said Cristian Pîrvulescu.
On the other hand, some members of the parliamentary opposition commented that the Moldova Europeană event is essentially a party gathering that has failed and has heavily involved administrative resources to transport people to the Great National Assembly Square. This statement belongs to Grigore Novac, a deputy of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists. In his opinion, citizens would be skeptical about Moldova's European future.
"It failed because if we refer to the past, what the PLDM organized was somewhat more solid. Ultimately, the desire to demonstrate to the entire society how the European vector and Moldova are lost without it, has not succeeded. Citizens are now looking more skeptically because those from the PAS [Party of Action and Solidarity] allowed a vessel to compromise this idea," Novac stated.
The gathering in Chișinău represents an important mobilization of citizens in support of the European vector, which should continue in the future, according to Vasile Pușcaș, the former chief negotiator for Romania's accession to the European community. He also states that the Republic of Moldova has every chance of becoming a part of the European Union by 2030, as the efforts made in this direction are impressive.
"The fact that you have set 2030 as the target to join the European Union is both realistic and feasible, and it is absolutely achievable. I am convinced that there are still things to be done. I hope this event will be interpreted as a clear indication that this time we will start and continue the journey towards transformation for the purpose of joining the European Union," said Vasile Pușcaș.
Today citizens from all localities of our country participated in the "Moldova Europeană" Assembly, convened at the initiative of President Maia Sandu. The event took place in 33 European cities as well.
