EU Civilian Mission in Moldova to be officially launched on 31 May

The European Union (EU) Civilian Mission to Moldova will be officially launched on 31 May, announced the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, on Radio Moldova's "360 degrees" programme. The head of diplomacy in Chisinau stressed that the leader of the mission is already present in our country, and in a few days the experts from the European Union will come.

"I have made and we are making this connection and anchoring of the Republic of Moldova in the European space through several initiatives. This civilian partnership mission with the European Union will help us to strengthen our security capabilities in several areas, especially in everything related to strengthening the capacities of the Ministry of Interior and inter-institutional coordination in our country to combat hybrid threats. We will launch this mission on 31 May. They are obviously going through a process of identifying space, acquiring computers, machines, phones and hiring staff. These experts will come from the European Union," said Nicu Popescu.

On 22 May, the European Union approved the launch of the Civilian Mission to Moldova. The aim of the mission, officially created on 24 April at the request of the Moldovan authorities, is to help strengthen the country's crisis management structures and increase its resilience to hybrid threats, including cyber security and the fight against manipulation and interference of foreign intelligence.
