European leaders discussed at the European Political Community Summit in Bulboaca energy shocks, green energy development, climate change, which they said affects the whole continent. The statement was made to Radio Moldova by the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Energy, Carolina Novac.

"We are now in the process of launching the Residential Energy Efficiency Fund. Most of the emissions we have in the Republic of Moldova, about 50%, come from the residential sector, the buildings we have new Soviet buildings, which have not yet been renovated. In this renovation process we are talking about billions of lei, which we are going to allocate to this sector", said Carolina Novac.

Carolina Novac also pointed out that most greenhouse gas emissions come from the energy and transport sectors. She said the fight against global warming would require planting more trees in the coming years and switching to electric transport.

The Republic of Moldova will receive a new assistance package from the European Union, which includes support of around €1.6 billion. Of this amount, more than €100 million will be provided as aid for the energy sector. The announcement was made on Wednesday by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen after a meeting with President Maia Sandu.

The money will help make buildings more efficient and fund energy projects. Investments will also be made to interconnect the power grids between Moldova and Romania.
