Harassment and victimisation will be punishable by misdemeanour
Harassment and victimisation will be punished by misdemeanour. A legislative initiative in this sense was approved today by the Parliament. The document provides for the expansion of non-discrimination criteria, the improvement of data collection in the field of equality, the monitoring, evaluation and annual reporting of results and the strengthening of the institutional framework.
At the same time, the Criminal Code was supplemented with the notions of "harassment" and "victimisation". Thus, any hostile or offensive behaviour with the purpose or effect of harming a person's dignity will be sanctioned. It should be noted that sexual harassment remains sanctioned by the Criminal Code.
The document was developed in the context of the National Action Plan for the implementation of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union and aims to remove the shortcomings of the regulatory framework in this field.
