What are the main conditions for achieving the goal of European integration? The response of extra-parliamentary party leaders
The main condition for achieving the objective of European integration of the Republic of Moldova would be the cohesion of the society, implicitly of the political forces, according to the participants in the public debate organized by IPN Agency under the title "European Political Community Summit - open opportunities for accelerating negotiations with the EU". According to them, European leaders, regardless of political colour, demonstrated unity and solidarity at the European Political Community Summit held on 1 June in Bulboaca. Now it is up to Moldovan society to focus on the idea of European integration.
The European Political Community Summit was an effective platform for important discussions for the Republic of Moldova, including on the bilateral dimension, said Ion Sula, President of the European Social Democratic Party of Moldova.
"We have also convinced our external partners, I mean those in the European Union, that they want the EU border to be good. They are already helping Moldova to move towards this goal".
The lack of cohesion in society is the biggest obstacle in the process of European integration of the Republic of Moldova, according to Dinu Plîngău, chairman of the Dignity and Truth Platform. In his opinion, the goal of integration must be taken on board by the whole of society, implicitly by all political forces.
"Many people wonder whether the amalgam of crises that our society is going through could not bring to power in a few years Russian or disguised parties, which would put obstacles in this process. This is a strategic objective that must not be changed into a political objective and that is why the main players, opinion leaders, need to take it on board."
For his part, Igor Munteanu, president of the Coalition for Unity and Welfare, said that in Western countries, including those in the European Union, there is continuity in terms of policies. And even if other leaders come to power in these countries, the position on Moldova's accession to the European Union will remain the same.
"There are no discontinuities, so, for example, if a head of state changes in a state with accession aspirations, the whole set of arguments for supporting Moldova changes. Of course it matters a lot what is delivered, because the European Commission, in particular, expects tangible results on the main reform directions."
Our country hosted the second summit of the European Political Community, which took place on 1 June in Bulboaca and brought together almost 50 European leaders. The Republic of Moldova was granted candidate status for EU membership in June 2022, and the authorities hope this will happen by 2030.
