Maia Sandu: In two years, Moldova will be interconnected with Romania

The Republic of Moldova will have alternative sources of energy thanks to the interconnection with Romania, which will be operational in the next two years, President Maia Sandu said during a broadcast on Vocea Basarabiei.

The head of state also said that the authorities do not want a monopoly market, but an alternative one, i.e. the interconnection with Romania, which will be operational in two years, is currently under construction.

The President stressed that Moldova had been put in the position of buying electricity from the Transnistrian region because the electricity grids in Ukraine had been destroyed by bombing, and access to alternative energy sources would be ensured once the interconnection with Romania was completed.

The President made these statements in the context of the statements of the Ukrainian Ambassador in Chisinau, Marko Shevchenko, who was convinced that relations between Moldova and Ukraine in the field of energy will be very good, so that the neighbouring state could supply our country with energy at competitive prices.

Maia Sandu said that until the Russian destroyed Ukraine's energy infrastructure, Moldova had been buying electricity from the neighbouring country.
