Family Doctor// Blood Donor Day

Blood Donor Day is celebrated annually on 14 June and is an additional opportunity to encourage people to donate blood or blood plasma. This custom has several benefits, both for patients who need to be transfused and for the donor. More information is available from Pavel Cepraga.

Donating blood is beneficial for trauma patients with haemorrhages, i.e. blood loss, patients with haematological diseases, oncological diseases and many other conditions. The procedure is harmless for the donor, and even useful. Who can donate blood and what are the benefits of the procedure, says haematologist Luminița Dediu.

"There are a few eligibility conditions to donate blood, to be between 18 and 60 years old, to weigh at least 50 kg, to have blood pressure between 100 and 180 mm/Hg, not to have undergone surgery in the last six months, women must not be pregnant", said Luminița Dediu.

Regular donation refreshes the blood and strengthens the immune system, reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and even cancer.

A blood donation burns 650 kcal.

In addition, donors are checked for hepatitis B and C, HIV/AIDS and syphilis.
