ANSA organises spot checks at farms, slaughterhouses and fairs
The National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) has started a series of unannounced checks at farms, slaughterhouses and fairs to verify the origin, health and registration of animals. The measures are aimed at combating clandestine procurement, transport and marketing activities.
According to ANSA, the illegal transport of animals carries the risk of outbreaks of diseases such as African swine fever, avian flu and rabies and leads to the placing on the market of meat that may pose risks to human health.
At the same time, the institution urges citizens not to buy animals without veterinary health certificates or food from unauthorised places.
