The more active involvement of civil society in the decision-making process and the adaptation of national policies to European Union standards is a necessity, said Prime Minister Dorin Recean in his speech at the annual conference "Cooperation between Parliament and civil society". More than 100 representatives of civil society in the country participated in the event. They mentioned that such collaborations aim at the more efficient functioning of state institutions.

In the opening speech of the event, the head of the Executive spoke about the need for a more active involvement of civil society in the decision-making process, including in the context of the process of adapting national policies to EU standards. The Prime Minister asked non-governmental organizations to monitor the Government's activity more closely, in order to bring more discipline and transparency to the actions of the authorities.

"Most of the time, the Government fails to sufficiently consult civil society, but you have the promise that the Government is gradually increasing its efficiency and we will make sure that all projects are sufficiently consulted. In our relationship with the European Union, we really need your help, on three dimensions: to monitor the Government's activity, the creation of certain regulations, communication with society on government policies", said Dorin Recean.

The legislative changes are not made only because they are requested by the European Union, but they aim to improve the quality of services and to ensure better functioning of the institutions, said the representative of the National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum, Ion Manole.

"The reforms are not for the European Union or because the European Union demands them, it is a wrong thesis. The reforms are necessary for cleaning and airing the state institutions so that they function better", said Ion Manole.

The involvement of civil society in the development of government policies will make the implemented projects meet the needs of the citizens, said the Ambassador of the European Union in Chisinau, Janis Mazeiks.

"The contribution of civil society organizations to the policy-making process can improve their quality. Thus, public policies and laws respond better to the needs of citizens", declared Janis Mazeiks.

The conference was attended by representatives of NGOs in the country, deputies, diplomats, officials from ministries, as well as international officials.

We remind you that a year ago the Republic of Moldova became a candidate country for the European Union. Recently, the deputies created the Platform for dialogue and civic participation in the Parliament's decision-making process.
