A new package of sanctions against Russia has come into force

A new package of sanctions against Russia in connection with the war in Ukraine entered into force today, reports DPA. They are aimed at preventing evasion of previously imposed sanctions and target companies from other states, including China, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates, Syria and Armenia.

The package of sanctions, the 11th in number, includes the possibility of restricting certain exports to countries through which the products subject to the sanctions reach Russia. Also, commercial ships suspected of violating the oil embargo or of being involved in transfers from other ships to evade the tariff ceiling imposed on Russia by the EU, will be banned from accessing European ports.

A ban on the transport of goods within the EU may also apply to trucks with Russian trailers or semi-trailers. In response, Russia announced that it had "considerably expanded" the list of heads of European institutions and EU member states, which it will ban from entering its territory.
