Official: Labour migration among Moldova's key problems
Labour migration is one of the key problems facing the Republic of Moldova and one of the causes of the decline in the population of the Republic of Moldova, Felicia Bechtoldt, state secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, told the French publication "Mediapart". According to her, the most important determinant of migration is economic causes. However, in recent years, according to the official, family reunification and the desire to obtain internationally recognised studies and diplomas have been added to the causes of migration.
As regards the profile of migrants, most of them (around 40%) are young people aged between 25 and 34, followed by people aged between 35 and 44 (25%). The majority of people who migrate have a low level of professional training, with secondary or vocational education, says Felicia Bechtoldt.
The official also said that these figures are estimates, as a large number of migrants have dual nationality, in addition to being citizens of Romania, Bulgaria or other European countries. This makes it difficult to establish accurate statistics on labour migration.
