Cosăuți-Yampil cross-border bridge to be put into operation in 2025. Government ratified construction agreement
The Government has approved the ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the construction of the cross-border road bridge over the Dniester River at the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border in the area of Costauti - Yampil, signed in Kiev last month. The bridge will be over 1,400 metres long, with two lanes of traffic and two pedestrian pavements on both sides.
The construction is due to be put into operation in 2025, said Lilia Dabija, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
"Our aim is to build a cross-border road bridge, which will interconnect infrastructure and allow citizens on both sides of the Dniester River to travel more freely and safely. The construction of the bridge will ensure the connection of the road network through the eastern part of the Republic of Moldova to the TEN-T trans-European road network. Recently, at the proposal of the Republic of Moldova, the European Commission accepted the inclusion of road sector 14.3 in the trans-European TEN-T network, which will support citizens' needs for mobility, facilitate trade, internal and international markets and further highlight the role of the Republic of Moldova as a hub between the European Union and neighbouring countries", said Lilia Dabija.
According to the agreement, the Government of Ukraine will ensure the financing of the technical design of the bridge, including its construction and related infrastructure on its territory, and the Government of the Republic of Moldova will ensure the construction of the related road infrastructure on the territory of our state.
Last February, the Cabinet of Ministers in Chisinau approved the signing of the Agreement, and construction work also started. They were to be finished within two years, but were halted due to Russia's war against Ukraine.
The agreement between Moldova and Ukraine was signed only last month in Kiev.
For the first time, this infrastructure project was discussed in January 2021, when President Maia Sandu visited Kiev.
