Russia has decided not to participate in the Black Sea grain agreement
Russia has ended its participation in the agreement to transport grain for export on the Black Sea, the Kremlin said on Monday, according to Reuters.
According to Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the position on the grain deal was announced by Moscow even before the attack on the Crimean bridge, and today's events have nothing to do with its termination. The term of the agreement just ended on 17 July.
Peskov also said that Russia will come back to consider the agreement when Moscow's demands under the accords are met.
Russia has officially notified Turkey and Ukraine, as well as the UN secretariat, of its objection to the extension of the grain deal, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
The agreement, brokered by the UN and Turkey in July 2022, was aimed at easing a global food crisis by allowing the safe export of Ukrainian grain. The agreement has been extended several times, but is due to expire on Monday 17 July.
Russia has claimed for months that the conditions for its further extension have not been met.
