One of Tiraspol's opposition leaders was found shot dead in his home. Reintegration office proposes setting up a commission of inquiry
One of Tiraspol's opposition leaders, the leader of the Communist Party of the breakaway region, Oleg Horjan, was reportedly shot dead in his home today. This was announced by the chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Gennady Zyuganov, and the leader of the Civic Congress of the Republic of Moldova, Mark Tkachuk. The information was also confirmed by the Moldovan police.
The Reintegration Office in Chisinau is proposing the creation of a neutral commission of inquiry under the auspices of the OSCE Mission to visit the site for an independent investigation into the circumstances in which the Communist leader from the left bank of the Dniester River, Oleg Horjan, was allegedly killed, according to a press release from the institution.
Oleg Horjan, a former member of the so-called Transnistrian legislature, was found dead in his home in the village of Sucleia, near Tiraspol. Moldovan police claim he was shot.
According to the Transnistrian police, Oleg Horjan's body was found by his wife in one of the rooms of the house, next to the safe which was open and empty. A criminal case has been opened. One of the versions is that the murder took place for financial reasons.
Promo-LEX calls on the constitutional authorities of the Republic of Moldova to promptly and effectively investigate the death of Oleg Horjan, the former leader of the Communist Party in Tiraspol, who was killed in suspicious circumstances in his home in the Transnistrian region, and to present the results of the investigation.
According to the association, Oleg Horjan was a victim of the Tiraspol regime and was one of the few public figures who had the courage to fight for fundamental rights and freedoms.
Oleg Horjan was sentenced by the separatist authorities in Tiraspol to four and a half years in prison in 2018 for organising protests and was released last December.
