Mihail Popsoi on the murder of Oleg Horjan: The alleged assassin was not in the country
The alleged attacker of the leader of the Communists in the Transnistrian region, Oleg Horjan, was not in Moldova on the day of the murder. The authorities in Chisinau deny the version of the so-called Tiraspol authorities that Andrei Duminică committed the murder of the opponent. According to Parliament's deputy speaker, Mihail Popșoi, the insistence with which certain versions are promoted must be suspicious, and this "probably betrays a certain interest".
The statement was made after the hearings held within the Special Parliamentary Monitoring and Control Committee on the implementation of Moldova's reintegration policy, which discussed the murder of the civic activist in the Transnistrian region.
"He was allegedly out of the country at the time, this information is confirmed. He was not in the Republic of Moldova, neither on the right nor on the left bank of the Dniester at that time. The insistence with which certain versions are promoted must give us cause for suspicion to a certain extent, but in such a case it is good to be open to several versions, to investigate them equally. The insistence on a certain version probably betrays a certain interest, to the detriment of other versions", said Mihail Popșoi.
Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serbrian, representatives from the Bureau for Reintegration Policy, Police, SIS and members of the Commission also attended the hearings without giving details of what was discussed.
"The discussions focused on this murder, on this extremely tragic case, when the citizen of Moldova Mr. Horjan and a figure with a certain notoriety both on the left bank of the Dniester and in Moldova, ended up being killed with such cruelty, the information available to our authorities at this moment was given," Popsoi said.
According to the MP, the law enforcement authorities are going to investigate this case and a possible repeat hearing will take place depending on the information gathered and the existence of a certain context.
Oleg Horjan, a former member of the so-called Transnistrian legislature, was found dead on the morning of 17 July in his home in the village of Sucleia, near Tiraspol. Moldovan police say he was shot.
Earlier, Promo-LEX called on the constitutional authorities of the Republic of Moldova to promptly and effectively investigate the death of Oleg Horjan, the former leader of the Communist Party in Tiraspol, who was killed in suspicious circumstances in his home in the Transnistrian region, and to present the results of the investigation. According to the association, Oleg Horjan was a victim of the Tiraspol regime and was one of the few public figures who had the courage to fight for fundamental rights and freedoms.
