The Republic of Moldova will benefit from a grant of 220 million dollars from the US for the development of the energy sector
The government of the United States of America will additionally grant the Republic of Moldova a grant worth 220 million dollars for the implementation of investment projects in the energy sector. The draft law on the ratification of this agreement was voted in the second reading by 56 deputies.
The additional funding from the US is offered to reduce dependence on the Russian Federation by connecting the energy sector of the Republic of Moldova with European systems, attracting investments in local energy production, diversifying natural gas supply, said the Vice-President of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance , Valentina Manic.
"Allocation of additional grant resources of $220 million, which will increase the total funds committed to date under the agreement. Therefore, the financial plan is replaced by a new one. This amount will be disbursed outside the national treasury system for the implementation of investment projects in the energy sector", declared Valentina Manic.
According to the Agreement, the total funding will exceed the amount of 392 million dollars, which constitutes non-reimbursable assistance provided to our country. The agreement also establishes the conditions for granting by the US Government, through the United States Agency for International Development, budgetary support in the amount of approximately 77 million dollars. Under the Agreement, the Government of the Republic of Moldova undertakes to remain aligned with the Energy Agenda of the European Union. In this context, the authorities will continue the process of harmonizing the legislative framework of the Republic of Moldova with the EU Acquis.
