Expert: Blocking grain exports from Ukraine creates global food insecurity risks
The export of grain is an important part of Ukraine's economy, and blocking it endangers the country's economic security and creates risks of food insecurity worldwide. The statement was made by the director of the Institute of Political Studies and Social Capital in Chernivtsi, Marin Gherman, in the show "Paralela 47" on Radio Moldova.
"Now Russia wants to get a lot more out of this deal. He wants a renegotiation of this agreement and tries to prove by all efforts that without Russia stability in the Black Sea region is impossible, he tries to prove that without taking into account the interests of the Russian Federation, Ukraine will not achieve anything, that the ports close to Romania and the Republic of Moldova, such as Ismail and Reni, as well as Odesa, Chernomorsk and others will continue to be blocked and threatened. And until the main actors in the Black Sea region and those outside do not take into account Russia's interests in this geopolitical area, nothing will happen," the expert noted.
We remind you that on July 17, Russia withdrew from the grain agreement negotiated last year by Turkey and the UN. The agreement allowed Ukraine to export its agricultural products through Black Sea ports. After withdrawing from the grain deal, Russia attacked several Ukrainian ports, in response, Kiev announced that Russian ships and ports in the Black Sea had become legitimate targets of the Ukrainian military.
